BMW wins 4 categories in MOTORRAD magazine’s 2015 MOTY
Even though it’s just March, BMW dominated in MOTORRAD magazine’s 2015 Motorcycle of the Year Reader’s Choice. The award ceremony took place in Stuttgart, Germany on 3 March 2015, highlighting the poll’s 17th year. Over 48,100 readers participated in what is considered the most important motorcycle/scooter readers’ poll in Europe.
BMW took first place in the Tourer/Sport Tourer, Sportsbike, Enduro/Supermoto and Modern Classic categories, adding on three second and three third place rankings as well.
Tourer/Sports Tourer: The new R 1200 RS and its unique mix of ride dynamics, sports flair and touring qualities got 21.5% of votes to take the crown in its first year of release. The updated but still venerable R 1200 RT nabbed third.
Sportsbike: With 23.8% of votes, the updated, 199-bhp S 1000 RR took first place in this category. Readers clearly approve of the RR’s combination of performance and safety systems, which include Race ABS, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and Dynamic Damping Control (DDC).
Enduro/Supermoto: A previous winner, it’s probably not a surprise that the R 1200 GS pulled in 25.3% of votes to win the category. This legendary adventure bike is, of course, ideally suited for long-distance journeys on all sorts of terrain.
Modern Classics: Pulling down an impressive 35% of reader votes, the R nineT’s mix of classic design, custom-built character, cutting-edge technology and dynamic sports riding won here.
General director of BMW Motorrad Stephan Schaller said, “This terrific result achieved by our motorcycles pleases me greatly and I would like to thank the readers of MOTORRAD magazine very much for their vote and their trust in BMW Motorrad. This confirms once again our development work and also acts as an incentive for the future so we can keep offering the best BMW motorcycles.”
In other categories:
Crossover: The S 1000 XR notched 2nd place with 20.7% of votes before the bike has even hit the streets. (Note: a special event highlighting the XR and giving journalists and industry experts their first comprehensive look at the XR is taking place in Europe as this is being written.)
Naked Bikes: 2nd – R 1200 R; 3rd – S 1000 R
Scooter: 2nd – C 600 Sport/C 650 GT; 3rd – C evolution
