Using the new MOA Anonymous App

As we shift to a digital model for the MOA Anonymous Book, here’s an introduction to and primer on the MOA Anonymous App. While we know you’ll get a lot of use out of this app, we understand change is sometimes difficult, and if you’d like to continue receiving a paper copy of the Anonymous Book, all you have to do is update your profile (must be signed in to your MOA account to do so) or contact the main office by phone or email.

Here’s a bit of info on how to download and use the MOA Anonymous App. (updated 8 Dec 2020).

The first thing you need to do is download the app, so head on over to the Google Play or Apple App Store.

This screenshot is from the Apple store; Android users should see a similar option. Use the “SEARCH” function and search for “bmw moa anonymous” to find the app.

While you can access some information, such as the locations and phone numbers of BMW Motorrad dealers in the US and Canada, without being logged in (tap “Skip” to do so), you’ll need to log in to make the most of the MOA Anonymous App.

The credentials you’ll need to use are the same as those you use to log in to your account on the MOA website – your MOA username and password. If you have difficulty logging in to the app, double-check that you can log in to the website.

If that doesn’t work, use the website’s “Forgot Password” function to reset your password. If you still can’t get logged in, contact the main office by phone or email to have us reset your account password manually and that should do the trick. You cannot reset your password from the app.

Once you’re logged in, the app will attempt to detect your current location. You may need to update your device’s settings to allow the app to do this – we recommend using the “Only While Using This App” setting rather than leaving location settings active all the time as a basic security precaution for all apps, not just the MOA Anonymous App.

Don’t worry, though – if the app cannot for any reason automatically detect your location, simply tap on the blue “BMW MOA Anonymous” button to be taken to the anonymous listings, where you can sort by state/province and city to find help.

If you are out of cell coverage or don’t have wifi access, you can still access the data in your MOA Anonymous App – it’s always there, even if you’re stranded in the middle of nowhere. You will have to find a land line, though, to actually call anybody!

Note the feedback link at the bottom of the screen along with the phone number for the main office. Tap either of those to use them.

There are also two options for assistance with using the app in the form of the “Emergency Help Systems” and “Introduction to the MOA App” links. Tap either of them to get a quick rundown of how the app works and what it should be used for.
Tapping the “hamburger” icon – i.e. the Menu – in the upper right corner of the main screen brings up this window, which displays your membership info (profile photo, member number, name and join date), the email you’ve put on file with the MOA, and your membership renewal date. You can easily renew your membership by tapping “Renew Now” at any point.

You can use the “Motorcycle News” link to get the latest on what’s going on in the motorcycling world from some of the biggest sources in industry news. This includes the BMW MOA, and selected articles from the MOA website will appear in this section.

Before you set out on a trip, tap the “Refresh Data” link and your MOA Anonymous App will download the latest Anonymous info from the MOA. We update this information on a monthly basis (or more frequently), and other than downloading the app, this is the only time you need cell coverage (with data active) or wifi connectivity when using the app. When you do this, you’ll get a pop-up letting you know the process is working.

We are working on further refinements and features for the app, such as adding an interactive map, and will keep the MOA membership updated as those features are added.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions about the app, tap the link at the bottom of the main screen in the app to send them our way. You can also use the contact form on the MOA website.
